Internet Radio Show: Sunday Baroque

Tune in Early (Live on 9/27/20 at 6:00AM)

Streaming From:

Sunday Baroque is an exploration of Baroque and early music, that is, music written before 1750. Composers such as Bach, Vivaldi ,and Handel were the cornerstones of this era, with masterpieces including the Water Music, Royal Fireworks Music, and the Brandenburg Concertos. In the past several years, there has been a resurgence of interest in early music performance practice, with many young innovative performers and ensembles hitting the scene with their own interpretation of the repertoire

Sunday is the one day of the week that most people can choose how they want to spend their day: sleeping in, gathering with family or friends for a leisurely brunch, going to worship, or relaxing alone with the Sunday paper and a steaming mug of coffee. Because it's private "down time" for many, it means there's more chance to listen to the radio, and the pleasing sounds of Sunday Baroque provide a perfect soundtrack for this unique day of the week.

Today, composers whose reputations and works have languished in obscurity for centuries are being discovered. Sunday Baroque celebrates the current wealth of recorded repertoire available, with greatperformances by yesterday's and today's best performers.

Suzanne Bona is creator, executive producer, and host of Sunday Baroque, an NPR public radio program devoted to Baroque and early music.
