“Jazz will endure just as long as people hear it through their feet instead of their brains”.
John Philip Sousa (1854-1932)

Jazz may be thought of as a current that bubbled forth from a spring in the slums of New Orleans to become the main spring of a new and lively century. Saturday afternoons from 5-6pm you are invited to listen to a variety classic recordings from the big band era, those timeless vocal performances, and brand-new releases just hitting the stores on Jazzbo.

Jazzbo is a one-hour celebration of America’s classical music, the result of the creative energy stored up in our great country. From the early days of Bix Beiderbecke and King Joe Oliver, to the excitement of L.A.’s Central Avenue; the big bands of Bob Florence, Marty Paich, and Gerald Wilson; the singers who inhabited the Capitol Tower back in the hey-day of the American Songbook; and the instrumentalists who play sweet, soft, and with plenty of rhythm.

If there is a national American form of song it is the blues. And you’ll hear plenty from the early Chess days, plus brand-new releases by Shemekia Copeland, Junior Watson, and Clarence Gatemouth Brown. And don’t forget those classic re-issues by Roy Brown, Wynonie Harris, Big Mama Thornton, and Earl Bostic.
